AARC's job training and placement services help educate and train individuals of all ages for employment, and provide opportunities for entrance into fields of work field that many would not be able to access on their own. These services engender economic independence and advocacy both at the individual and community level.
AARC is fortunate to have a state-of-art computer lab with 12 personal computers, which can be used for computer-aid instruction (CAI) as well as job search activities. We propose to conduct literacy and GED interventions for at risk youth and adults interested in advancing their educational skills. Common problems faced by low-income immigrants include outright illiteracy, computer illiteracy, lack of a high school diploma or GED certificate, and lack of confidence in high tech competence. AARC will use our computer lab to assist clients with limited educational attainment to develop adult literacy and to prepare for GED certificates.
Career Exploration/Soft Skills Intervention
The final intervention is a series of Life Skills Training Courses
to address the deficits in "soft skills" which prevent persons from securing a good job, maintaining the job,
and earning advancement to reach living-wage employment. Soft Skills training will focus on self-defeating beliefs
that often undermine efforts to become self-sufficient. Topics will include: work ethics, social interaction,
self-esteem building, communications skills, conflict resolution, decision-making, and problem solving activities.
Through our job placement efforts with employers, a network of supportive community services for job seekers
with direct assistance or relevant resources in their job search. In other words, we will provide extensive
comprehensive services to job seekers to access information and resources that are job-related.
We will also go beyond the scope of job placement alone by providing other social services, health programs,
education, and counseling programs.
